Göttingen collection of mathematical models and instruments
Welcome to the website of Göttingen Collection of mathematical models and instruments. It is the most extensive collection of historical mathematical models in Germany, and includes about 540 exhibits spanning from the 18th to the 21st century. Most models are made of wood, plaster and/or lead. The collection also contains more than 60 mathematical instruments.
The exhibits are divided into mathematical categories, following the historical catalogue of the collection. Moreover, the descriptions are currently being enhanced by students in the context of a research seminar; they also add videos, applets and 3D scans to the database.
Access to the model collection is free, and is part of the public space of the Mathematical Institute, Bunsenstrasse 3-5, 37073 Göttingen, and may be visited by anyone within the opening hours of the institute.
